Rhodex Readiness

An honest framework for AI readiness in the trades.

Most "AI readiness" claims are marketing, not measurement. We built this framework while preparing our own business for AI — and we're publishing it along with our own honest score, gaps included. If we're going to help other trades and service businesses assess their own readiness, the least we can do is show our work first.

To be specific about what that means in practice: Rhodex — the platform behind the scenes, this readiness framework, and the page you're reading right now — was built using Claude (Anthropic) as a genuine engineering and planning partner throughout, not bolted on for one isolated task. That includes the backend architecture, the real payment and matching logic, and the honest self-assessment below.

The framework

We assess readiness across seven dimensions. Each is scored 1-10, based on concrete evidence, not aspiration.

Rhodex's own score, as of today

Data infrastructure
Developing
A structured database schema exists for craftsmen, jobs, verification, and messaging — the foundation is real. It now holds real transaction history too: we have completed and paid jobs as of September 2026. Still thin — and thin is exactly what limits what AI features can honestly do next.
Process documentation
Strong
Core workflows (job dispatch, verification, notifications) are written down as clear specs before being built, not improvised. This is unusually disciplined for a company at this stage.
Team AI fluency
Strong
The backend was built with Claude (Anthropic) from day one, and business planning happens the same way. The muscle memory of working with AI tools is already there.
Real usage data volume
Early stage
As of September 2026, we have completed and paid jobs delivered by a vetted craftsman roster across plumbing, electrical, carpentry, renovation, and painting in York Region — the pilot this framework called for has genuinely started. Still early: this is real signal, not yet a real dataset. The next real milestone isn't more planning, it's more completed jobs.
Tooling & integration capability
Strong
A modern API architecture (Node/Postgres) that connects cleanly to AI services without requiring a rebuild — this was a lucky consequence of good early technical choices.
Leadership buy-in
Strong
Genuine intent to use AI thoughtfully exists — this framework and page are themselves evidence of that. Scored conservatively because intent alone isn't the same as a track record.
Governance & risk awareness
Developing
Verification limits are disclosed honestly rather than overstated, and privacy/terms documents have been reviewed and approved by counsel. A formal data governance policy — the next real step — doesn't exist yet. A concrete example of the principle in practice: the homepage's pre-launch demo widget (example job counts, example review pop-ups) carries a "demo mode" disclosure directly inside every number and pop-up it shows — not in a separate disclaimer a visitor could miss — specifically so it can never be mistaken for the real, data-gated live-counters section next to it.
Early-stage, foundation-strong

Data-thin. Rhodex has the technical and documentation groundwork most companies lack — and its first real jobs are exactly that, a start, not yet the dataset no amount of planning can substitute for.

What closes the gap

Our own roadmap, published honestly rather than kept internal.

NEXT
Grow the completed-jobs base — the pilot has started, and the highest-leverage step is still the same one: more real jobs. Real usage data is the input every meaningful AI feature depends on.
THEN
Formalize data governance — a real policy for how craftsman and client data is stored, used, and protected, reviewed by counsel rather than drafted informally.
LATER
Layer in assistive AI first — support answers and document-review assistance, which don't require historical data — before attempting anything predictive like matching or pricing.
ONLY AFTER DATA EXISTS
Predictive features — smart matching, fraud detection, demand forecasting — deliberately sequenced last, since they'd be guesswork without real transaction history behind them.
For other businesses

Rhodex Readiness

We're turning this same framework into an assessment for other trades and service businesses figuring out where they actually stand with AI — not where a vendor wants them to think they stand. If you run a skilled-trades business and want an honest score instead of a sales pitch, get in touch.
